But on 20 minutes the ball was spread wide to Ben McMullen who took a touch and delivered the ball onto the head of Tom Radford. With a fantastic header from about the penalty spot, Tom put the ball in the back of the net. We continued to have chances go begging and were unlucky not too be up 6 nil at half time. A firm team talk at the half time break by coach Tony Reeves saw a complete turn around in the second half. We kept producing chances and on the hour Adam Malia put a great through ball to Sammy Parisi who forced the keeper to make a great save, but the save could only be parried to Adam who finished from 6 yards out. With 15 minutes to go Vikings scored a goal out of no-where that left Ben Aldridge with no chance. Tony Reeves bought himself on for Tom Radford who had basically run himself into the ground and had earnt the right to have an early shower. A goal mouth scramble saw Mick Cartwright score the 3rd after some good build up work from midfield. A much better performance by the lads in the 2nd half, and we'll have to play like that from the outset next week if we are going to hammer Florina. | | | Reserves Squad | | Matt Armeni, Craig Hain, Lucas Barsby, Matt Adams, Mark Gebauer, Graham Walker, Sam Bambery | | | | This was a game of extremes by the B's this week. Extreme positive was that we managed to score 4 goals and although we could have scored a lot more, this was pleasing. The negative was that we let in 3 very soft goals, which is very uncharacteristic of our normally solid defence. The win takes us up to third spot with a number of crunch games coming up. The game itself was played in good spirit and was very entertaining. Vikings opened the scoring when an uncharacteristic misunderstanding between Azza and Hullsy gifted their striker a goal. However we equalised within a few minutes when Matt Rossidis calmly finished off a great move by our lads. Hullsy duly atoned for his earlier mistake heading in Bally's corner. We dominated play with some great football in the second half and in between plenty of wasted chances Jimmy Allen scored our third goal. Unfortunately however we let Vikings back with some undisciplined defending. Our fourth goal came as a result of some good movement and was scored by Bally. Again, Vikings scored a third on the break when yet again we failed to clear and allowed a simple goal. In the end 4 - 3 flattered the visitors and we'll need to tighten up considerably if we are to prevail against a star studded Florina reserves team next week. | | C Grade | | The C grade boys tried hard all day in what ended in a 7-1 loss against the top team Adelaide Vikings. Even before the game, things were hard up as we started with only the bare minimum 11 players. However with a stand in keeper stepping up to play it at least gave us 1 on the bench. Unfortunately, the pressure got to the young fella who made a few minor mistakes and Adelaide Vikings took their chances well, including a great free kick. We manage to get one back through Will Villacorte, however we went into the half time break 4-1 down. The second half was much a better start, Craig 'Panther' Hain had to take the gloves as the young keeper hurt his ankle. And with Josty hurting his knee late in the first half things were not looking good. However all the young lads in the team stepped up and played some nice flowing football in parts, and actually created a few more scoring opportunties. It took Vikings about 25 mintues before they scored their next goal and following this they scored 2 more. Finishing 7-1. Overall it was not a bad effort and I think the score line certainly didnt refelct the effort all the boys put in. From Ritchie at the back, being solid all day, to Matty Spencer Adams who hassled their back line until the final whistle. | | | | | C2 Grade- Rebels | | More to come | | | | | Fossils Squad | | Russell Miller, Mark Swan, David Harley, Adam Exton, Lee Web, Bob Clarke, Neil Edwards, Mick Fidler, Garry Evans, Chris Morris | | | | The usual cast of thousands for the Fossils was depleted this week to the bare 11 for what was always going to be a tough match against Para Hills East - maybe one day we'll get to play them at home?!?! When you add to the mix that of the 11 present that at least 5 were suffering from being over served at the previous night's quiz at the club then it was clear that our preparation had been seriously hampered. That being said the new club changing facilities at the East made it somewhere pleasant to throw up before the game! The Fossils started brightly and before long the boys had forced the East keeper into a decent save and were playing some sparkling football, Neil Edwards in the middle was bedazzling with some skills - or maybe the defenders were just knocked out with alcohol fumes? The industrious Bruecher also returning to form with Fidler ever dangerous on the left backed up by the superb Jonny Mace at left full back. Chris Morris swept with finesse and along with Lee Webb and Bob Clarke the defence held resolute with even the man with the bear paws (according to Motts anyway) finally showing he could hold onto something more than a beer. Gaz, Justin and DB always threatened going forward and we were pleased to go in at half time 0-0. The game stretched in the second half and sadly the East expolited it better than we did. A lucky break saw them open the scoring with a header from close range followed by a second. Downs couldn't buy a goal and even the post and the back of the keepers head defied Nelly whilst the normally reliable Garry Evans managed to deposit a couple in neighbouring gardens. Two lucky East goals including the much fabled Bob Clarke diving header own goal - a contender to rival Chris Saunders' twenty yard volley from a few years ago - before a great control and shot from the Monck up front narrowly missed and denied the Fossils the consolation they deserved. | | Women's | | New coaches on board, and lots of girls out which is promising to see.
